How Business Energy Procurement Works
A clear overview of the procurement process from review to contract.
Good business-energy procurement is a process, not simply a price comparison.
1. Establish the current position
Confirm suppliers, contract end dates, meter references, annual consumption and current costs.
2. Understand the requirement
A single-site SME and a large multi-site organisation may need very different contract structures. Budget certainty, contract length and operational flexibility should be considered before pricing is reviewed.
3. Review available options
Compare suitable supplier and contract options on a like-for-like basis, including the relevant commercial terms rather than only the headline unit rate.
4. Make the decision
The customer should understand what is being agreed, why the recommendation is appropriate and how the intermediary is remunerated.
5. Manage the contract
Procurement should not end at signature. Accurate records, supplier confirmation, issue handling and renewal tracking are part of a stronger long-term process.
